Other Haptics Applications

The incorporation of haptic feedback has demonstrated to be effective in applications such as molecular docking, nano-manipulation, surgical training, virtual prototyping, and digital sculpting.

In 3D digital sculpting and painting, haptic feedback provides two interesting features: one is the possibility to naturally follow surfaces, thanks to friction, and the other is feedback for intuitively producing deformations [→].

The use of haptic devices brings, at the same time, interesting challenges to human-computer interaction. The dominant hand is typically busy with the haptic device, hence it becomes difficult to navigate the application, select the viewpoint and camera parameters, etc. Using the haptic device and haptic information as additional input can help navigate in visuo-haptic environments [→].
