A little bio...

Hi all! I'm Carlos Garre, a PhD candidate at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (Madrid, Spain).

I graduated in Computer Science in year 2006 at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Before year 2010, bachelor's degrees in Spain were different in duration to other european countries. My degree in Computer Science had a duration of 6 years + final project (1 more year), so you can compare this to a usual: Bachelor + Master (it is really difficult to compare the spanish academic system with others...).

Nowadays I work as assistant professor and researcher (Personal Docente e Investigador en Formación) at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos. My PhD advisor is Miguel A. Otaduy, and our main research topics are: Haptic Rendering and Physical Simulation.

In this section of my site you can find some personal information about me.

Don't hesitate to contact me for any reason!

Groups and Associations

Some groups or associations I belong to:

I'm a member of GMRV (Grupo de Modelado y Realidad Virtual), the research team for Virtual Reality at University Rey Juan Carlos.

I'm a member of Madrid ACM SIGGRAPH Professional Chapter.

For 4 years (1998-2002) I was president of the student's association IDIM (Investigación y Desarrollo de la Informática Musical = Research on Computer Music), where I worked hard: software and hardware projects (Fractal Sound Synthesizer, Linux MIDI Monitor, MIDI-thru Box, MIDI Controllers and Interfaces, ...), courses for students (Substractive Sound Synthesis, Introduction to Computer Music), and a lot of activities (Music contests, parties, ...).

ieeeI'm a student member of IEEE society.

Interests

Here are some of my hobbies:

Windsurf

Windsurfing is not just a hobbie, but a way of living...

a    Spanish Inland Windsurfing Competition    b

I started windsurfing when I was 15 years old, when I was too old to keep sailing in my Optimist.

I usually practice windsurf in Mar MenorTarifa, and some inland lakes of Madrid and Toledo regions.

I have a bunch of windsurf equipment (now in use):

Althought what I most like is Freemove, I specialize in Formula Windsurfing and Slalom categories, and I also practice some Freestyle moves.

I usually don´t participate in windsurfing races, but I was 1st in 2008 at Spanish Inland Windsurfing Competition (Circuito Nacional de Aguas Interiores), for the Open class.

Computer Music

Since I was I child I always loved music. I started playing violin, then guitar, then drums and finally synthesizers. In 1995 I published my first web site, about the Yamaha SY35 music synthesizer.

Now I own 4 synthesizers (Yamaha SY35, Korg Z1, Novation Nova and Yamaha Motif Rack), an Akai s6000 sampler, and some other gear (Doepfer Pocket Control, 16 channel mixer, EMU 0404, and a lot of software).

May be some day I will publish here some of my music...

Here are the schematics of the MIDI and audio connections in my home studio:

Board games

Here you have my collection at Boardgamegeek.
