!!!! TALK RESCHEDULED ON MONDAY !!!! Anatomy of a Film Festival Carlye Archibeque
Executive Producer of the SIGGRAPH 2009 Computer Animation Festival The SIGGRAPH Computer Animation has been a part of the conference since roughly 1973. By charting the festival's rise alongside and in tandem with the major milestones that led to the rise of the computer graphics industry and arts, this talk will analyze the growth and development of a new age of tools and entertainment that have converged on almost every facet of the social and professional worlds. Along the way, the history of the festival's production cycle and history will be discussed with the goal of giving the audience a better understanding of this SIGGRAPH program and it's relation to the yearly conference.  Carlye Archibeque began her career in the motion picture industry at the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts & Sciences as the assistant to the Film Archive director. She soon moved to assisting the Awards Administrator with the coordination of awards committee meetings, and co-producing the Student Academy Awards and the Scientific and Technical Awards.
After 7-years at the Academy, Archibeque changed her career course to working in production for Sony Pictures Imageworks as the visual effects coordinator on Spider-Man 2. While on Spider-Man 2 she oversaw the production of over 300 shots that were farmed out to Sony vendors. She moved from the production side of Imageworks to the Marketing and Communications department after Spider-Man 2 to produce and manage marketing, promotion and lecture material to use as audio visual content for the studio executives and artists when they presented or lectured around the world. Additionally, she coordinated the awards and festival submission process for Imageworks. Archibeque has been involved with the SIGGRAPH Computer Animation Festival for the last three years. In 2007 she was the assistant producer; in 2008 she volunteered to be the producer; and in 2009 she was asked to act as the Festival Chair for the 2009 SIGGRAPH Conference. She is a current member of the Visual Effects Society and served as a juror in 2009 at the Stuttgart Animation Festival for the full-length feature animation competition.
